Talking through problems

Talking through problems

  • Talking about your problems can release pent-up feelings.
  • Talking to someone outside of the situation may help you to find a solution to the problem.
  • If you don’t think you can discuss the problem with anyone you know, you can call a confidential telephone counselling service.

It can be hard to talk to people about how you feel. You may be worried that they won’t take your feelings seriously. You may also be worried about what will happen after you tell them your problems.

If you think you don’t know anyone who will listen, you can call a confidential counselling service. Kids Helpline (Tel. 1800 551 800) and Lifeline (Tel. 13 11 14) are telephone counselling services that are available 24 hours a day.

Talk to someone you trust

Talking to someone you trust about something upsetting may help you to:

  • sort through the problem
  • see the situation more clearly
  • look at the problem in a new or different way
  • release built-up tension – this can help you to gain new insight into the situation that is causing the problem
  • find out that you are not alone – you may find that many other people share your feelings
  • identify options or solutions you hadn’t thought of before.

World MS Day 30 May – Raising awareness of the invisible symptoms and unseen impact of MS.

Health Weeks

World MS Day 2019 will take place on 30th May. The 2019 campaign will be called ‘My Invisible MS’ (#MyInvisibleMS) and the theme is Visibility.

My Invisible MS will raise awareness of the invisible symptoms of MS and the unseen impact of MS on quality of life.

The campaign will give a voice to everyone affected by MS to share their invisible MS symptoms and express what they want others to know and understand about MS to challenge common misconceptions and help people understand how to provide the right support.

There are many ways to get involved in World MS Day and use and adapt the My Invisible MS campaign. You can take part in the campaign online and on social media, hold an event to bring people together for World MS Day, lobby your decision makers to make positive changes for people affected by MS…there are so many possibilities!

World Ovarian Cancer Day

WHAT IS WORLD OVARIAN CANCER DAY?

Each year on May 8th, women living with ovarian cancer, their families and supporters, along with patient advocacy organizations from around the world, come together to raise awareness about ovarian cancer. World Ovarian Cancer Day (WOCD) is the one day of the year we all raise our voices in solidarity across the world in the fight against this disease.

The first World Ovarian Cancer Day took place in 2013. World Ovarian Cancer Day is an initiative of the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Why do we need World Ovarian Cancer Day?

Ovarian cancer has the lowest survival rate of all female cancers. Most women are diagnosed once the cancer has already spread, making it more difficult to treat. There are often delays in diagnosing ovarian cancer. That is because there is no early detection test, and symptoms are often confused with symptoms of other less severe illnesses, particularly gastrointestinal complaints. Read More >
