Protect yourself this pollen season

Here are some things you can do to prepare for pollen season:

  • If you have asthma – your GP can help you develop or update your asthma action plan to manage your asthma.
  • If you’ve ever had asthma – talk to your GP about what you can do to help protect yourself from the risk of thunderstorm asthma this pollen season. Remember, taking an asthma preventer properly and regularly is key to preventing asthma, including thunderstorm asthma.
  • If you experience wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness or a persistent cough then you may have asthma. It’s important you talk to your GP and get it checked out.
  • If you have hay fever – see your pharmacist or GP for a hay fever treatment plan.
  • If you have hay fever, and especially if you experience symptoms of asthma, such as wheezing, shortness of breath, a tight feeling in your chest or coughing, it is important to make sure you don’t also have asthma. Speak to your GP today about whether you might also have asthma, and check if you should have an asthma reliever puffer – which is available from a pharmacy without a prescription.

Consumer Medicine Information at Berwick Pharmacy

Consumer Medicine Information at Berwick Pharmacy

Pharmacy news

Consumer Medicine Information (CMI) leaflets gives you important information about all prescription medication and some medications you can only buy over-the-counter at pharmacies. Reading the CMI will help you understand how to safely take your medication, explain possible side effects and interactions with other substances.

Many prescription and “over the counter” medicines contain Consumer Medicine Information leaflets and of course our pharmacists at Berwick Pharmacy can assist you to understand this information or answer any questions you might have. Medicines work better if you understand more about them – what they are, how do they work, what are the side effects, how long should I keep taking them and should I review these medicines.

You can search for more information here Consumer Medicine Information (CMI)

Dealing with Trauma

Dealing with Trauma

Health & Wellness

16-11-2018

It is normal to have strong emotional or physical reactions following a distressing event. On most occasions though, these reactions subside as a part of the body’s natural healing and recovery process. There are many things you can do to help cope with and recover from such an experience.

A traumatic experience is any event in life that causes a threat to our safety and potentially places our own life or the lives of others at risk. As a result, a person experiences high levels of emotional, psychological, and physical distress that temporarily disrupts their ability to function normally in day-to-day life.

Examples of potentially traumatic experiences include:

  • natural disasters, such as a bushfire or flood
  • being a victim of, or witness to, a crime, act of violence or armed robbery
  • being involved in, or witnessing, a serious car or transport accident
  • being in an airplane that is forced to make an emergency landing
  • being physically assaulted
  • being exposed to images, news reports or social media posts of these types of events.
